How do I make Hangout video work??? OS X 10.8.5

"We've detected problems. You don't have a camera. You can still use voice and video calls without a camera."

Despite the Google Hangout message, yes, I do actually have a built-in camera that works great with SKYPE ! ! !

Google Hangout video camera issue occurs on new Macbook Air running OS X 10.8.5 with Chrome, Firefox, Safari.

Problem persists even with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Supplemental Update which "Resolves an issue that may prevent certain applications from using the FaceTime HD camera on mid-2013 MacBook Air systems"

Dori Storbeck from GOOGLE says, "This issue isn't within Google's control to fix, and Apple has posted a known issue..."

Dori's referenced APPLE link says, "Contact the developer for assistance with applications not developed by Apple."

Yes, we have all seen this so many times before: Mom says to the child, "Go see Dad;" dad says, "Go see Mom." NOTHING is decided nor accomplished!

For now, here is one work around to this problem:

1. Quit your Chrome entirely (cmd+Q).

2. Open your Facetime app and leave it open.

3. Open Google Chrome.
4. Start your Hangout.

5. You can now close Facetime app if you want.

You can browse the rest of the thread for more help. I hope a more pernament fix comes soon.
