I've read the instructions a couple of times and gone through the Nano settings and can't seem to find out how to adjust the Spoken Feedback voice levels. When running I listen to music through Shure sound isolating earphones. At a reasonable sound level (med-hi) when the Feedback occurs, it's super loud. It's so jarring, that I'd consider returning it, if it's not adjustable.
Is this voice level at a standard level or can it be adjusted?
I experienced the same thing. In fact, the Nike mix I bought is extremely low volume and I had to listen to it at maximum volume just to hear it at an otherwise reasonable level. Then the voice came on and I almost went deaf. And while the voice was blasting I could not turn it down at all.
Try a force-reset of the iPod. My music, for no reason, became much quieter but the Woman's voice was still loud. After a force reset they were more proportioned - much better.
Thanks Thomas. I will try a reset and see if that helps. Do you have to have the receiver plugged in and sensor linked when you do the reset or can you just reset it without?
Thomas -
Thanks so much. Doing a hard reset solved my issue. Now when the feedback comes in, the volume lowers the music, and I can hear the voice. It's still a little loud, but nothing like it was upon my initial use.
Thanks again.
Press and hold the Menu and Center button together for about 5-seconds, until you see the menu disappear and Apple logo appears on the screen. The iPod will restart and should go back to normal.
I also noticed this problem on my third run with the nano. As I walked to my running location, I listened to some music and the volume was fine. I plugged in the Nike sensor into the Nano, and I noticed that the volume for all the music was significantly decreased. I thought I had turned down the volume -- nope. I thought maybe the volume limiter had been turned down -- nope. With everything at maximum power, the volume was downright wimpy - perhaps about half as loud as before (and probably at about the diminished volume the music plays at during the voiceover before returning back to normal). I then pressed the menu button for the voiceover, and mistakenly took 2 years off my ears' life because Ms. Digital Nike yelled at maximum volume.
After a mile or so, I couldn't stand it any more so I stopped and just did a reset of the ipod nano, and that fortunately corrected the volume problem. However, I'm fully expecting this problem to recur in the future. I did notice that, although I started with a fully charged ipod (just detached it from the charger before the run), the battery level had decreased, albeit by the slightest noticeable amount. I hadn't noticed that the battery dropped this quickly before.
I reset my ipod and went out for my second workout today. The volume between the music and the voice coach are considerably more in line with each other. The only problem that remains is when I first connect the receiver the voice still blasts when prompting me to walk around to link up to the sensor. It's so loud I have to rip the earbuds out! But after the workout starts, it's a normal level. Anyone else have this loud voice at first?
Same issue. I did hit the "Center" + "Menu" and I think it worked..My issue was the volume was too low on my iPOD...I was ****** because everything ealse is finally working correctly. Its different the volume when sitting in the office (seems louder) than running outside. It does seem louder so thank you...
I tried the reset trick but it did not work for me. (The Nano reset OK, but the volume problem is still there.)
If my Nano is set for a comfortable level for music (outdoors with no traffic or much background noise beyond birds singing), then when THE VOICE first comes on saying to "push the center button to start" it blasts my eardrum.
I suppose this helps ensure that people keep their volume low, but....
Thanks for the reset tip. I was having the same problem as you guys.
What's more, I use a Belkin Tunecast II in my truck and thought for sure that it was fried this morning. I'd gone for a run, gotten back in my truck and plugged my nano into the Belkin. The Tunecast didn't automatically turn on as it usually does when it receives a signal from the iPod. After manually switching it on, the level it transmitted to my trucks' stereo was so low that I had to crank up my stereo just to hear it. The sound was distorted and I wasn't happy, but after resetting the nano everything's fine now!
(I'm guessing Apple will have a fix for this issue in their next iPod update.)
I'll add myself to the list of those experiencing the problem and the sort-of solution. (Resetting the iPod before each run gets old pretty quick.) I'm commenting mainly to let Apple know how widespread the problem is in the hopes of getting a fix quickly.
