How do I turn private browsing off on Safari without a toolbar on the bottom of the page?
iPad, iOS 7.0.1
The "Private" button to enable/disable Private Browsing mode is located on the top, left corner of the keyboard if you tap the address/search bar in Safari, or in the lower left-hand corner when you open a new tab (before tapping the address/search bar to bring up the keyboard).
I have the very same problem. No way to turn private browsing on or off, it's just not there. I have IOS 7.0.4
In safari there is a Do Not Track mode (green sliding button) no private browsing anything, no cross in upper right in safari , In settings under Privacy there is only a Location Services, which is on.
From what I have been reading here I do not have these functions that I need to use to turn privacy on or off. I'm really at a lost. As to what to do next. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
You don't turn privacy on/off it settings it is done on the Safari page. Tap the + sign in the upper right, then tap private in the lower left corner. The top of the screen will turn dark to let you know your in private.
The Privacy toggle is inside the App. Tap the Address bar to bring up the Keyboard, and look for the "Privacy" text on the top left corner of the keyboard.
If you are using a physical BT keyboard, you will need to open a new tab, and the privacy option will be at the bottom left corner.
Again, There is NO setting to turn off on SAFARI page. NO + sign in uper right ,nothing to tap in lower left corner, I wish there were. People on here do not get the FACT I DO NOT HAVE THESE FUCTINGS IN SAFARI. Does anyonce have a promlem like this?
Why didn't you say that instead of asking how to turn it on in privacy. Are you us IOS 6.
I have no idea what you mean. "The privacy toggle is inside the App." I think I need step by step instructions.
Are we talking IPAD? again, in settings ,under Safari , none of the things written about are there. There was someone else on here with the same problem. under safari , nothing to turn on or off, just a NO NOT TRACT fuction under privacy and security in safari Does anybody have any ideas? Sorry but this is quite frustrating.
Thanks Philo , you are the best, thanks for being patient with a non savy tec guy like me.I did find what you told me to look for , the safari icon and private at the bottom. Thanks again , you were big help
Glad it worked.
This assumes you are running iOS 7 (To check, open the Settings app > General > About > Version). There is not a tool bar in Safari that contains Privacy per se. It is simply a button that appears at the bottom of the browser screen and only under certain circumstances. It does NOT appear when you have a tab open to a website, for example. And note that this is NOT in the Settings App. Open Safari. There are a couple of ways to access it:
If you are indeed running iOS 7 and cannot find these controls, you might try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
But I suspect you are not looking in the correct place.
nevermind 😝
Not meaning to appear condescending, but this might be helpful: http://help.apple.com/ipad/7/
