full screen in Safari?

To get rid of the full-screen view in Safari, I was advised to click the blue arrows in the upper right-hand corner, or press Escape. Neither works with OS X 10.9 and Safari 7.0. Any other ideas? I can't find anything in the manuals, or any other answers in the Communities.

You can also try control-command-f, but it sounds like that won't work, either.

If this were happening to me, I would quit Safari. Then relaunch it from the Dock while pressing the shift key. If that didn't work, I'd also try restarting before relaunching Safari (and doing the shift key thing).
