My iPod Touch 5 won't sync

So this is a new problem and I've noticed it started happening ever since I downloaded all the new software for Mac and iPod. I plug it into my computer and iTunes recognizes it, I hit sync and the syncing symbol shows up on the iPod but goes away really quickly and then iTunes is stuck on whatever step it was on during the sync. And then I wait for a while to see if it'll correct itself or tell me some error has occurred but it just more or less freezes and I end up having to force quit iTunes. Then, I look on my iPod and none of my new music shows up. And now, a new thing has been happening where I go to play a song on my iPod and if it's not bought directly from the iTunes store, it turns grey and the downloading symbol comes up next to it, and won't play. So I decided to back up my iPod to my computer instead of iCloud to see if that'd fix things and it downloaded a few things, but I noticed something I downloaded the other day still wasn't on my iPod, so I figured everything was fixed and synced it again, only for it to get stuck yet again around the third step when it was trying to back itself up to the computer. I don't know if this is a problem with my computer or iPod, so I was wondering what other people think about this because I've never had this problem before.

I am having this problem as well, on an iPod 5 32G running iOS7.0.4, with a 24" iMac from 2009, running OS 10.6.8. It gets stuck on the step where it says "Waiting for changes to be applied". After being stuck there for several minutes, it just stops, looking as if the process was completed. However, none of the new songs I wanted to add are on my iPod, and the bar showing the free memory, reverts back to where it was without the additional songs.

I have tried shutting down my iMac and unplugging it from the power before restarting, as well as resetting the iPod, but this has not helped.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and have you found a fix?

After days of getting frustrated I finally found a solution: Don't use itunes to sync music. After going through pages of possible solutions (restores, syncing albums one at a time, removing all music, deactivating accounts, making a call while syncing and various other things) as well as trying to contact apple support (Which was a joke--They wanted to charge me $19.00 to get help for a problem with their software), I change my Google search terms to "how to sync music without itunes" and I found a program called CopyTrans Manager for free. It only took me a few minutes to add the new tracks to my iphone. It automatically organizes it the same way itunes would and you have the option to make your own playlists. Best of all it synced the first try! Itunes is now dead to me. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do with all the free time I have since I'm not going to be spending hours banging my head at my computer ready to throw my phone out the window.
