Have tried three sources, but they either did not have it, or their disk failed to install. These are the FW400 only models, so OS 9.22 should install and be bootable. Where to find the OS 9.22 bootable disk foir this model ?
Also, the customer would like a partition with OS 10.4.11 and a partition with OS 9.22. Is this doable with this model ?
Yes, it is possible to partition the hard drive and have OSX on one partition and OS 9 on another.
There is no retail (universal install) version of OS 9.2.2. That machine requires the model-specific version of OS 9.2.2 which originally shipped with it. You might check with local Mac User Group(s) - most large cities and universities have one.
On that model's original disk set, OS 9.2.2 can be installed as an option via the installer which runs in OS X when the machine is booted to the OS X Install disk. The trick is that the installer will only allow the installation of OS 9.2.2 after OS X has been installed, and that only onto the same partiton containing the OS X installation.
The solution for that is to do so. Once the OS 9.2.2 install is complete, boot to it, then drag-and-drop the OS 9 System Folder and the two folders named Applications (Mac OS 9) and Documents onto the icon for the partition on which you want to have OS 9. Let Finder copy them to that partition.
Then, via Startup Disk control panel, select the second OS 9) partition as the boot volume and test boot to it. If that is satisfactory, then you can throw away the originals of the folders you copied.
Note - you may need to fix a few aliases after booting to the OS 9 partition; when aliases are copied, they still point to the 'original' original. These can include one for Sherlock (in the Apple menu items folder in System Folder), perhaps a few in the Application Support Folder in System Folder, and any that you may have created.
