iPad Air and problems

Hi

Bought iPad Air 16GB 18 November and having problems with it already! OH has had the iPad4 (updated to IOS7.0.4) for a year now so I know the comparison re the problems I have with the Air and I'm far from happy with it (both of us happy with the iPad4 however!

Just a couple of details of my set up, used saving battery with tips from Apple so I know it's not that and I don't as yet have a case for my ipad so not overheating.

Problem number one is, I switch on, the Apple logo comes up for several seconds, it then switches to the "slider" screen and IMMEDIATELY switches off. I can't even touch the screen to get to it before it does! I then switch on the on/off button and it works ok after that.

Second problem (comparing with OH's iPad), the average battery use for 45 minutes on mine is 6% down (8% in an hour) and on OH's 1% in 45 minutes - 1 hour. I think mine is losing battery life far too quickly so am asking here for comments/advice/help to see what you think.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

best wishes

Since a fully charged battery usage time on an iPad is approximately 10 hours it is normal to see 8% battery decline after an hour of normal usage. Seeing only 1% decline after an hour of usage is not normal and is probably incorrect.

Or are you talking about battery usage with your iPad idle?

Hi Jim, talking about using iPad and how quickly the battery goes down compared to OH's. Seems excessive to me and I just wanted to ask what sort of time others get out of theirs. Any help with the shutting down immediately it boots up please? I would love to get that sorted if I can as I really don't want to return it (to John Lewis) if I can help it. It's fine when I press the start button again but it shouldn't be shutting down like that and tees me off. TIA for any help.

Hi Treesa, i have the same problem with screen switching off before you can activate the ipad (air 64 gb ). When i called apple we performed a complete restore which involved removing the software and reinstalling it. There was no change and apple said it must be a hardware problem and arranged to swap my ipad. I went to the apple store to and they also agreed with that it was faullty and today i went back to the store to collect the new pad and guess what, EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. The guy there confided with a few colleagues and they decide that this is probably (i think this is what he called it) predictable behaviour or something like that which may be solved with a future update. He did try to see if the problem ocurred on their display models, but they go straight to home screen and skip the activation page. Anyway they have ordered me another ipad to see if has same problem, lastly he advised looking at forum, so here i am. I will let tyou know how i get on.

Hi John,

Thanks for your input on this one. I took the iPad to the Apple store and a very helpful chap did a restore for me at the shop. He said it wasn't right to do what it did (switch into sleep mode) immediately after powering on without even being able to get to the slider "button".

After the restore it was exactly the same and he and his colleagues said they hadn't seen this before. He told me to take it back to where I bought it and get it changed. However because of reading up on certain other problems the Air had which was encountered by others on here (coloured screens etc) as the fault on mine was only the screen switching off into sleep mode I decided not to do anything about changing the iPad at that time. I also wanted to see if the same problem occurred on the one that we bought a family member just before Xmas and it did, it does exactly the same as mine on power up.

Whilst I know it's not right as OH's iPad 4 has never done it (that's why I felt something was wrong with mine), I was prepared to live with it just in case as in your experience, changing it would bring the same problem or other faults that some say they have with the Air.

If I want the slider screen to stay up what I tend to do is, several seconds after switching the iPad on, I press the Home Button a few times and the activation page then stays on screen. No big deal really and as (so far) everything else has been going ok (still not sure about battery but others think it's alright), I'd rather put up with this than encounter different problems.

I hope your new replacement will be ok, if not then I think it could be something to do with some batches have this problem some don't or that it is peculiar just to the Air iPad though the staff at the store don't think it is.....

I'd be interested to know how you get on so please post back to let us know. Thanks for telling me about your experience, will look forward to hearing from you again.

all the best

Treesa
