Q: Really necessary to copy photos from PhotoStream to Camera Roll?

Support page for PhotoStream says PhotoStream photos are only saved for 30 days. Okay. But it also says that to save photos, you must copy them from PhotoStream to Camera Roll. That seems to be an error. Pictures I take with my iPhone do appear in my camera roll without copying them from PhotoStream. Anyone have further info on this confusion?

That applies to photo stream photos that aren't already in your camera roll, such as those received on a different device than the one they were taken on.  Camera roll photos remain indefinitely.

Also, your last 1000 photo stream photos will remain on your iOS device until you delete them.  They only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  If you were to restore or replace your device, when you reconnected to photo stream you would only receive photos from the last 30 days.
