Shortcut for Text to speech in pages isn't working

I use text-to-speech daily for proofreading of documents. Apparently the most recent download has created a situation where the shortcut key isn't functional any longer. Shortcut was control-s , this function doesn't work; now I am forced to go into edit , then highlight- "speak" and then "start speaking"... I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issue. It seems to be isolated to I Works products only. Pages, Numbers, Keynote.... The shortcut key works perfectly in any other application, e-mail, notes, or simply highlighting A group of text on a webpage and it works perfectly fine. Right now it's a pain in the butt to use if using in of the I works applications. Thanks
