Q: Apache Endless Throttle Respawn

As of this morning, my sites are dead, and the OSX Server can say only this to me:

• Nov 27 13:41:57 <servername> com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

I've done hours of investigating, but no encounters with nor any solutions to this problem seem quite to fit.

I have no httpd processes running.  I've tried to kill them many times and I'm only told there aren't any.

When trying to restart Apache, I get this interesting tidbit:

• servermgrd[102]: servermgr_web: Cannot confirm Apache was started; missing or invalid pid file

Configtest tells me that the syntax is ok, but also tells me:

• MaxClients of 150 exceeds ServerLimit value of 133 servers, lowering MaxClients to 133.

Any dumbed-down thoughts as to why Apache can't seem to get out of bed?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

For those who might later be tearing their hair out over this, my problem seems to have been a certificate conflict.  I had two Apple certificates dated roughly the same time (renewed a couple of months ago).  I disabled one of them and everything came back.

Now to see what other damage I've caused myself by disabling a certificate...
