Q: system preferences: advanced, option buttons do not respond

Since installing Mavericks (currently 10.9 13A603), I have been unable to access most, if not all, 'advanced' or 'options' buttons, in system preferences, e.g., Security & Privacy/Advanced... or iCloud/Photos/Options... (see image below).

I do not have this issue while logged in as another user. I have repaired permissions, run a maintenance app (rebuilding, cleaning and verify corrupted preference files). For the heck of it, and to no effect, I moved ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist along with the longer ...7897F35D-....plist version along with same named plist in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.

Thanks in advance!

I did a web search on the specific Console log error when I tapped one of the questionable buttons:

    11/27/13 3:44:50.856 PM System Preferences[2218]: *** Assertion failure in -[NSSecureColor initWithColor:], /SourceCache/ViewBridge/ViewBridge-46/NSSecureColor.m:32

which pointed me to the solution in this discussion thread:

By running these commands, one at a time in Terminal, I can now access the System Preference options and advanced buttons. Hooray!

    defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSUseLeopardWindowValues YES

    defaults write com.apple.Safari NSUseLeopardWindowValues NO

    killall SystemUIServer
