"vnstat" under OS X

Has anybody experience of compiling and then installing "vnstat" under OS X?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

a quick search lists this Blog -- but he does not address re-compling, just installing:

This one claims that since it runs on BSD, it runs on Terminal under mac OS X:

EDIT: and if you want to monitor WiFi and not Ethernet, take a look at the tools already hidden in Mac OS X:

Thanks for quick response!

1 Looked at your last item "MAC Wi-Fi' Diagnostics and indeed, my Mavericks has it. However it is not exactly (understatement) that which I am use to with "vnstat" (from earlier experiences with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS). WiFi Diagnostics also seems to assume US equipment (e.g. Router) and there was no obvious way to define my SpeedPort. In any case, I'm really looking for something simple which just shows daily up- and down-traffic irrespective of whether it is thru WLAN or cable.

2 I will further research with your second item (BSD) as in looking for my WiFi Diagnostics, I came across "vnstat" in my files that I had not placed there!

3 I'll look at your first item but curiosity is telling me to go for the Bash stuff in item # 2.

I've installed vnstat under macports. (See http://www.macports.org )

Having done so, I'm not sure what it returns bears any relation to the actual traffic!

Not sure I can help but it does look as though "vnstat" is picking up the wrong data.

I have found the Terminal command line "top" command and have been trying to work out how could I collect the information given under "Networks". Now I wonder whether you could use "top" to maybe cross-check that data which you're receiving from "vnstat".

Out of curiosity, did you install the binary or did you work with the source code?
