Can't use back button after viewing a PDF in Safari

It only happens with PDFs.
I have to use the History drop down menu to go back to the previous page.
Any suggestions?

Hi, goofticket

Yes update to 10.4.7 if this is your sole issue, there may be a fix for that. Just make sure to do it right.

1. Backup your data. If unsure what is the best method of backing up your data to keep it safe, be sure to start your own topic here and many posters will be glad to find the best method for your needs.
2. Turn off Energy Saver and any automatic software updating mechanism from Quicktime, to Software Update, to third party updates.
3. Dismount (if a data storage peripheral) and disconnect third party peripherals.
4. Verify all your software including drivers for third party devices are known to work with the update in question, or needs the update.
If it does not need the update to run stop right here, and keep on using the version of the operating system you are running.

5. Do not update if your system is slow or unhealthy. Troubleshoot any system issues you may have with fonts, cache, or preferences before updating.

6. Make sure all Apple Applications are stored in the Applications folder (except Applications Mac OS 9 for Classic applications).

7. Repair permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.

8. Apply the right update for your machine. Use Apple menu -> About This Mac to determine if you have a G3, G4, G5 (PowerPC, also known as PPC), or Intel.

Thanks to a.brodys topic: Now that 10.4.6 is out, let's review the upgrade steps.

Applies to 10.4.7 as well additionally when the mac reboots after the restart reboot again, before using it.

I am in 10.4.7 and this is when it started.
I repair permission every week, like I used to rebuild my desktop weekly going back to OS 7.1.
I also completely removed Adobe Acrobat Reader to assure that it wasn't mucking things up.
I've never had an update issue, in years. I have also, always used manual sleep, manual updates, and have cleared all caches, etc before updating. I've also repaired permissions before and after any updates.
I don't have other 3rd party stuff on the Intel iMac. I put all that on the G3 that is networked runnng OS 9.1 and OSX 10.1.5. Application sharing is off on both machines.
It's just weird that only PDF's afect Safari.
I am thinking about trying Firefox and see if it is browser specific.
It isn't a real big problem. I can use the drop down menu, or just download the PDF's and read them later instead of opening them online in Safari.

Okay thanks for the info ,and for updating your spex, sounds like you are doing everything right, forgive me for all the extra.... so I don't know why you have this issue.

You removed Adobe and reinstalled or is this Preview's PDF.

If Adobe [ macromedia] PDF's. Did you try running Safari under Rosetta, Safari get info check the run under rosetta box.

Also have you tried customizing the tool bar again maybe that one
<forward|back> button has become corrupt, [ i may be grasping ;] is that possible. Let us kno how you do with it. I personally also like Shiira
I have all 3 browsers on all three computers.Shiira shortcoming no Speller, oddly enough. Yes not a hugh deal, however it is something that should work
for you. Hope someone else has some ideas.

Regards
Eme
