LG Fusic + iSync

Hey everyone, quick question? I'm looking to buy the new LG Fusic on Sprint and was curious if anyone has gotten it to work pretty easily with iSync on Tiger? Any responses would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Not a chance. No LG mobile handset has ever been—nor likely ever will be—supported by iSync, unless the Palm OS license signed earlier this year results in the manufacture of Palm OS-based smartphones by LG.

The only mobile handsets supported explicitly by iSync are listed here:

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html

Cross that with the list of available handsets and smartphones available from Sprint, and you will find almost no common devices. No Nextel iDEN handsets are supported at all. Blackberry and Windows mobile devices require additional third party software, and the Palm Treo 700p works far better with the Missing Sync for Palm OS than it does with iSync.

As a matter of fact, I'll save you some time, and simply state that the Palm Treo 700p is the only device currently available from Sprint/Nextel that is explicitly supported by iSync. Sadly, it's that simple.

So I recently purchased the Fusic and the phone is beyond what I expected! It's an exceptionally awesome phone jammed pack with features and lots of Bluetooth profiles!

The downside for Mac users is the lack of SyncML support, and there seems to be a USB Mass Storage issue for a lot of users (including myself). When trying to mount the phone on the computer, the phone resets itself but does show up under System Profiler's USB info. Another problem I've encountered involves the DUN profile; I cannot get it to work with the Sprint PCS Vision modem script or the Intel EV-DO modem script.

Address Book support is limited on the Fusic, but you can send vCards to the phone and vice versa. I've noticed that if you have any contacts stored in Address Book as companies it will only import the phone numbers and email address(s) without names. Also, contact icons will not transfer, you'll need to assign separate images to the contacts on the phone from your SD card.

You can connect to the phone via the Bluetooth Exchange.app but I have not found a way to browse the computer via Fusic. 😟

As for the USB issues, I read that a lot of users were able to finally use the flash storage when they hooked their phone to a USB hub instead of a direct connection to their Macs. I've been using the microSD card in my digital camera to transfer items from the flash drive as a temporary fix.

Overall, the phone is great, but sadly there are a few minor inconveinences for Mac users. I'm hoping the USB kinks will be worked out in an OS update. If anyone has had any luck with the DUN could they post exactly what they've done to get it working?

If there is anything else I can think of about this phone and Macs I'll post it here! Hope this helped answer any questions! 🙂
