Jul 16, 2014 12:54 PM in response to KiltedTimby Bjean71,I posted on here also - we are trying to deal with customer service and my Iphone was given to me from the wife of the owner after he passed away - she didn't know any of his passwords and cannot find any receipts.... He is deceased and we have the phone with his number and all the other information but then what do you do???

If she is willing to give Apple a copy of the death certificate, Apple Security can manually transfer ownership of the account to her and allow her to set up a password so she can unlink the account. She also will have the option of closing the account, which will automatically unlink all associated devices. It's not something that happens every day, but it does happen. Apple considers the account to be "property" and as such, is legally required to hand over all property from the deceased to the inheritor. The process does require legal review from Apple and may take a while, as probate often does. Don't be discouraged by what everyone here is saying, there is hope.

Although I did a complete wipe with recovery, I got stuck at the point where it's linked with the ID of a person who left the company who knows when.So I am SOL unless I can spend the time to go to an Apple store, get them some sort of proof that the phone is mine and then they can unlink? I hated Apple before owning one and I hate them more now.
This is the answer when you became harsh btw.

Dec 2, 2014 2:40 AM in response to RockinMorroccanby KiltedTim,Take it back to your company. They should have ensured it was not activation locked before they handed it over to you. You can't provide an original receipt, therefore Apple won't intervene.
You can hate Apple all you want for that, but get ready to hate everyone else just as much. Kill switches like Activation lock will soon be legally required.

I Have an iPhone 5 which I am desperately trying to wipe.
i had an Apple ID but when I got married I changed my surname and so changed my email address.
trying to be organised I changed my email for my apple ID as I didn't want everything going into an old email address.
it then prompted me to also change my password, so I did.
My phone now has my old email address as my Apple ID and will not accept either password to let me reset the phone and delete my Apple ID.
SO, it's not stolen and I've always been the owner of the phone, but still can not wipe it.
I half think this may be a way of apple stopping you selling items on and therefore making more money. I hope im wrong and someone may help me but I now don't know what else to do as I need the phone wiping.
I Have no receipt as its a contract phone so I never bought it from a shop so how do I prove I owned it from day1.

I don't suppose many people do as they would contact their phone provider if they had any problems. I just didn't account for problems whrn I was finished with the phone.
Any one got any advice?

Jan 30, 2015 6:23 PM in response to KiltedTimby kdarm,I bought an iPhone 5 from a friend. Her husband wiped it for her, and I set it up with my own apple id. I have been using it, but have noticed battery issues. When I checked the site, I discovered that this particular iPhone 5 qualifies for a free battery. When I started at the genius bar, it asked for the serial number. It told me that this serial number has a different apple id associated with it.
I contacted the previous owner, who again asked her husband to take care of it. He said that he did it this time. I don't know if he is not doing this at the support profile or hasn't taken it of find my phone or what. I'm able to use the phone and everything as expected. I'm wondering if it will be a problem when I take it to the apple store.
This phone syncs to my computer under my apple id. What will happen when I take it to the Apple store for a battery? Will they change the battery or accuse me of theft? She upgraded and sold me both her old phones. I think the problem is that they just don't know how to take it off their apple id. They did what they thought needed done.
Now what? Will Apple not be able to change my battery?
