I have a 15MBP from Mid 2009.
I just inherited a 27" thunderbolt display.
I plugged it into the video port (not a thunderbolt) that looks like vertical line, square, vertical line. Same size as thunderbolt.
Nothing happens. Monitor doesn't come on. I don't see a power switch. LOL.
I guess it won't work huh?
Sorry... never used a auxilary monitor with my MBP before.
(I am planning to buy a new 13" rMBP soon).

The Thunderbolt Display will not work with Display Port. You'll be able to use the display when you get the new retina Macbook Pro. As far as the power switch there is none. It turns on automatically when connected to a compatible Mac.

Anyone know how to have the 27" monitor turn off when you close your macbook pro??
When I close my mbp... the monitor stays on... I want it to go off when I close lid of MBP.
