AirPort Express problem with printer

I am using a printer at home via an AirPort Express, but I have a curious problem. In order for printing to work, I have to "rename" the AirPort Express using AirPort Utility each time I want to print. I'm guessing this "refreshes" the AirPort Express so it reconnects with the printer. This happens because I don't always keep my printer on and I turn it off after using it. When I turn the printer back on, the problem reoccurs. What I'd like to know is how to keep the AirPort Express working without having to leave my printer on all the time.
