Q: Having a little trouble with the "export" dialog box

Hi all,

When I get to the export dialog box, I'm not able to type directly in the "Custom Name" space.  I have to click around and fiddle with some of the drop-down menus (and then get back to the "name format" that I like) and only then can I triple-click or backspace on the former name and input a new name in the "Custom Name" blank.

Also, the "Export Versions" tab is highlighted, but hitting the "return" key doesn't make the export happen.  I have to mouse up to that button and click it that way.

Is anyone else having any trouble with inputting information on the export page?  And ideas?

Thanks as always.

The custom name field will only be active for the settings which have Custom name in them.

For example if the subfolder format is custom name with counter or if the name format is custom name with index, etc.

Yes, the name format is Custom Name with Index.  But when I click in the field, I can't edit it.  I have to click around and change some other settings to sort of make the dialogue box "wake up"; then when I go back to it, it's active.

It has worked for three years or more; it's how I always export.  But lately, it's been resistant and cluncky.

And as I said, hitting "return" doesn't start the export.  I have to click on the "export" box with the cursor.

Am I the only one having these glitchy problems with the export dialog boxes?  I still can't enter into the custom name field unless I fiddle around and click 5-10 times in other places.

Yes, the name format is Custom Name with Index.  But when I click in the field, I can't edit it.

    Mark,

For me, this preset is working well. Have you checked, if the preset for  "Custom Name with Index" correct?  You can verify it, by setting the "File Naming" format to "Edit". The preset should look like this:

I'd try to edit the preset, save it, and edit it back, to create a new preset file.

If that does not help, remove the user Aperture User Preferences, as described in this document:  Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

And as I said, hitting "return" doesn't start the export.

That also your "Export" button is not responding to return, even if it is highlighted in blue, is a sign, that your preferences file might have a problem.

Can Mark do an "other user"* test to see if the problem is caused by preferenced corruption?

    * Log in as another user -- Guest User is fine -- launch Aperture, and see if the export dialog works as expected.

    Léonie,

Thank you.  I think your suggestion to edit the presets has worked.

Kirby, I tried to log in as a guest user.  (This is the first time I've done this.)  Aperture opened with no images, so I clicked on "new library."  I selected the "current library," but the images never appeared in Aperture.  I tried this several times.

I don't think this is an urgent issue for me, but I wonder why the images never came into Aperture.

    Thank you both!
