If you have the original proof of purchase for that device, then you can contact Apple Support. They have a procedure that will allow you to bypass the Activation Lock, but only after you submit the proof of purchase.

i wish it was that simple....! i work for a small part of a massive company which owns pretty much everything....! including O2.... where the phone came from originally and to get that information would be near impossible...I'd have better chance becoming CEO.....!!!

Then tell your IT department to get you a different phone, and recommend that as part of the employee termination process, they require the employee to, in their presence, restore the device back to factory settings.

Shut the phone completely down, plug your iphone cord into your computer but not your iphone. Once the phone is completely shut down hold the home button at the bottom and while your holding the home button plug in the iphone to your computer until you see an iTunes icon with an arrow and white cord plugging into it. This will put the phone in recovery mode, and the computer will need the most updated version of iTunes installed. You will see something along the lines "iphone in recovery mode has been detected" Restore and update. set up as new and you should be good
