Problem with xerox phaser 3100 scanner functionality

I have OSX 10.8.5 for imac. I installed both drivers from xerox online. The printer works, however the capture image software cannot see the scanner. I went through some dounloading of x11 etc. but i couldnt get the job done. anyone who has done this before?
