How do export photos from an iMac to the cloud to access them on an iPad?

iMac (27-inch Late 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9), iPad Air

Okd Toad & Larry,

 

I appreciate your attemps at giving resources to resolve the issue. As per usual it came down to an assumption of mine. I assumed when I upgraded to Maverick's that iPhoto too was upgraded. So naturally I never checked the version number, unti today. Then I realized I was running 8. something...So anyway after i tried to glue some of my hair back to my pointy noggin', I upgraded the proggy...

 

Super glue *****, now I have hairy fingers...

 

Anyway that wa the resolution and the first thing any dip$heet should check...the version number...

    You can do it by manually adding those photos to My Photo Stream and let the iPad access them and copy to the iPad's Camera Roll for permanent residence on the iPad. The photos will be viewable in the Ps for 30 days. 

     

    Or create a Shared Photo Stream which will leave the photos up indefinitely and access the Shared Photo Stream (private or public)  with the iPad. 

     

    Of course both devices must be signed in to the same iCloud account and have Photo Stream enabled.

     

    the My Photo Stream is not a permanent situation wereas Shared Photo Streams are.

    Thanks, but I guess my real problem is on the iMac. The selection for Photos under the iCloud is greyed out, and can't be selected. I've looked and looked but can't find why it's greyed out. Going nuts, or in my case nuttier. Thanks again for your help. Any idea on this one? I'm at my kids house for Thanksgiving, hope your indulging too.

    Thanks Larry, but if you look at the iCloud screen in the first link my "photos" check box is greyed out, no way to check it. I have no idea how to make that check box active so I can click on it. Others are fine, except the one right above it. I have no idea what that greyed out check box is, as I'm away from the iMac (running Maverick).

     

    BTW - There is no "Photo Stream" check box (as the illustration shows, only "Photos"...

     

    Thanks again, but everywhere I look the assumption is that I can check the box. It's inactive, so it makes anything beyond that issue meaningless.

    And have you gone to the iCloud preference and logged in as step 2 specifics?  Until you do that you can not turn PhotoStream on

    Ok, back home (full). Yes Larry absolutely. "Keychain" was the other one greyed out, it magically became available to a click when I booted up the Mac. "Photos" has a button that says learn more, then it's a tutorial assuming I have the check box checked which I can't. I've definately been logged into the cloud, the button says sign out. I don't want to sign out, it says I have to delete everything else associated with the cloud. I checked to make sure the preferences were set to shared in iPhoto.

    I can even see the folders I've allowed to be shared. I just don't get it.

     

    Thanks again, I'm certain it's something Any bonehead could figure out...except me.
