Hi t,

Apple's warrantee does not cover damage. That said, one approach is to bring it in and show it to them and try convincing them it was already there when you got the Mac. The decision will be up to them. Another approach might be to take advantage of Apple's 14 day return period, supposedly no questions asked.

Great, I know it was rather convoluted writing 😁

But I think we are saying the same thing, Apple will not fix a user inflicted damage under warranty. A user can bring it back under the 14-day refund policy and ask for a refund. If Apple gives the refund they will make any repairs necessary before reselling as a refurbished unit.

Bottom-line, though, doing the refund route is the ethics of that approach.

Agreed! 😉

Yes, I wrestled with that a bit before posting it, but then I thought "what if I was totally convinced that scratch was there when I bought it and I just knew I (or someone in the household) asolutely didn't do it?" I'd be taking the chance that Apple believed me, and that could be a big chance, so I might be tempted to just return it too.

Sorry, I took "full" to mean that and was looking forward to your reply. Seriously.

its a grey area

Indeed.

not that you or Ralph were wrong

No worries, I didn't take it like that at all. 😉

Have a good night down there in that 70-80 degree weather. I just shovelled my driveway earlier. Ugh.
