AppleTV as Wireless adapter?

I currently have an airport express behind my tv acting as a wireless adapter (as well as connected to my amp as airplay speakers) for my internet TV. The TV is connected by ethernet to the airport express which is connected to my router by wifi.

Can an AppleTV pass the internet connection to the TV in the same way?
