Upgrade 10.4.11 to 10.5?

I have a MacBook (mid 2007) maxed out at OS X 10.4.11 and I can no longer get on email, do a number of features on Facebook or update my flash player. I would like to be able to update the OS so that I can continue to utilize the computer. What steps will I need to take to make this happen? Thank you.

Instead of upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard (which is expensive and not sold by Apple now), I recommend you to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

After buying the DVD, make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and upgrade. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is enough for that Mac, but if you want, you can also upgrade to Lion > http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion

Skip 10.5 and buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

Okay an additional question, my girlfriends brother worked on upgrading the memory from the original 1GB but now I have 2.5GB of memory with one 2GB and a 512MB split. Could that cause a problem?

I followed the suggestions from everyone and purchased Snow Leopard. To my dismay I am getting a response when trying to install that states "The contents of this disk can't be changed. Mac OS X couldn't be installed on this disk." Any new suggestions? Am I doing something wrong?

Where did you get the Snow Leoard install DVD?

Is the generic DVD or is it specific for a certain Mac?

I purchased it from the Apple Store. It is Mac OS X Snow Leopard with a snowy leopard on the package. It also has a green circle on the upper right corner of the box stating "New version 10.6.3"

As best I can tell. The computer information is in the original post and it seems that as far as the hardware is concerned I have the supported amount as listed for Snow Leopard. Tried a few things from another discussion and am trying the install again.
