Find and share Apple Maps links
I'm doing an iBook and want to link addresses in the text to open in Apple Maps on the iPad. How do I copy the Apple Maps link to paste into the Navigator?
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), iOS 6.1.4

Apple can add a link button & might do so if enough people leave feedback, otherwise it will simply be further down the list of to do items.
Maps on OS X is brand new and like the new iWork it isn't fully formed yet. It's the price you pay for living on the cutting edge.
If you click on the pinned location and share it in an email, you can right click on map and hover over “link" and then “edit" the link. It will then give you the hyperlink that you need to post where you need to! :-)
Can you work around it by using the 'Share' button?
Drop a pin (right click on the Map)
Click the pin
Click the ℹ icon
Click the 'Share' button it the top right corner of the popup.
Select Email
In Mail the link will appear in the text labeled 'Map'
Copy that to iBooks.
If it fails to work, convert the message to 'plain text' (in the Format menu). It will then show the full link URL.
This is very 'clunky' so I'd suggest you send feedback asking for a better way to get the link directly fromn the share button.

Um, nope, that doesn't work! Converting to Plain Text only gives me .. plain text.
Sorry it worked for for me. What happens when you click the blue 'Map' link before converting to plain text? It should just be a normal link.

This is the part that doesn't work. Using Format > Make Plain Text just converts the "Map" link to the text "Map".
Another alternative is to add the locations to your bookmarks in Maps. Then, open a text editor such as TextEdit or anything else that can accept a dragged URL or text. Drag the bookmark from the bookmarks list in Maps to the open window in TextEdit. You will get an Apple Maps URL suitable for pasting elsewhere.
Weird, my link just became the full URL, I think I had it selected at the time.
You need to make a Maps extension etre, Trick'd Maps perhaps :^)
Thank you for this, Drew - and for sticking to it!
I was able to create a contact which - and I have to do it again to pin down the steps - gave me a field titled Map URL. In edit mode I was able to select and copy this URL and now will paste it into my iBook page to see if it really works!
In fact, one can work from the other end: Add the address to Contacts (I’m creating a new Group to keep everything together), then click on the word ‘home’ (or ‘work’, or whatever you call the address), and click on Copy Map URL.
Tedious and roundabout, but it works!
Ah that sounds better.
I was assuming you didn't have full street addresses, but managing them from Contacts should help organize them.
Yes, but what a convoluted way to go about it! I have to do this 185 times for my book project!
Why can’t Apple simply add ‘Copy URL’ to the Apple Maps Share icon?
