Mavericks Software Update Server

Ok, i've enabled the software update server, its downloading updates.

Try to set it up on clients, and getting stuck.

i've tried it in Profile manager by creating a payload for

server.company.com:8088/catalogs/sucatolog as it suggests

Client receives payload. software update says "Can't load data from the Apple Software Update server."

Then remove profile and try terminal command on the client

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://server.company.com:8088/index.sucatalog

Same error software update says "Can't load data from the Apple Software Update server."

What is the trick to making this work?

Mac mini, OS X Server

Confirm that DNS and networking is correct both on the client (that the client gets the right DNS translation for the server, etc) and on the server (on the server, sudo changeip -checkhostname), let the Software Update Server finish with its initial mass of downloads, and then test the update again and have a look at the update logs on the server.
