Max RAM in an 06' 15 Macbook Pro?

Max RAM in an 06' 15 Macbook Pro?

I've read different things about this model and the max memory. Some people claim its max is 2Gb, others say 3Gb, and yet others 4Gb.

Its a 15 inch 2.16GHz macbook pro.

powerbook medic for some reason (based on serial number) says its a Core Duo... but the X.7.5 system profiler reports its a Core 2 Duo... which has to be right because its running Lion.

Not sure if any of PBmedic's info is correct based on that point but here's the rest of the info it provides: Model A1150, MacBookPro1.1, production December 06 (although the production run is denoted as Feb 14, 2006 - Oct 24, 2006)

Apple's selfsolve.apple.com site reports it as a C2D

Maximum Memory	2.0 GB

We all know "official" does not always reflect the actualities in real world performance since that info is put out at the time of the machine's release and never updated by Apple.

So i am looking for first hand experience of someone who has owned this model.

If it's a Core Duo, the RAM limit is 2GB.

If it's a Core 2 Duo, the RAM limit is 4GB, of which 3.3GB is usable.

Trust me, that is the maximum for that model based on my ownership and that of tens of thousands of other users. Why you would doubt it is beyond me, but it's a bit insulting to be told you don't think I have my facts right. If you know so much then why bother to ask?

The Core 2 Duo model is a 1,2, not a 1,1 model.

And the Core Duo can't run Lion, which Langdon's Mac is. Apple's site identified it as a Core 2 Duo.

Agreed, but he said it was a 1,1, so that would make it a Core Duo. Otherwise, he was misinformed. I assumed the most reliable information would be the model identifier.

It appears that PowerBookMedic reported incorrect information. Both of the other ways it was checked reported that it was a Core 2 Duo.
