Q: Setting up second airport to help with deadzone?

Having issues with a deadzone in new apt. It's 1,000 sq ft and a 67 mb download speed from our AirPort doesn't reach the bdrms. What's the easiest solution? Setting up a second airport as an extender?

What's the easiest solution? Setting up a second airport as an extender?

Easiest thing...although not the best thing......is to set up another AirPort as a wireless extender and locate it about half way between the "main" AirPort and the dead zone.

The best thing....although not the easiest thing......is to locate another AirPort right in the middle of the dead zone and connect it back to the "main" AirPort using a wired Ethernet connection.

Is it possible to use one of the older Airport Express options? I've put so much money into try to fix this already. I don't really want two routers. I'm only going to be in this apartment till the end of august.

    - Apple Airport Express Model A1264

    - Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station Model A1354 MC340LL/A Wireless Router

    Thoughts? And thank you!

If your "old" AirPort Express is the A1264 model that you mention, then you can use that to extend the network.

Best to connect it to the AirPort Exteme using a wired Ethernet connection and locate the Express right in the middle of the dead zone.

Not as good, but might be OK, would be to configure the Express to connect wirelessly.

In this case, you must locate the Express where it can pick up a strong signal from the AirPort Extreme since the Express can only extend the quality of signal that it receives.

Another way of saying the same thing would be to locate the Express about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the dead zone.

Sorry, I understood the info in your previous post to indicate that you have the following:

    - Apple Airport Express Model A1264

    - Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station Model A1354 MC340LL/A Wireless Router

So, I took this to mean that you have an A1264 AirPort Express and an A1354 AirPort Extreme

I currently own the newest version of the express

    That would be model A1392.

    So, we are confused.

Please tell us exactly what you have.

I'm sorry. Sure, I own this only: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC414LL/A/airport-express?fnode=4d. I just bought it new from the store on Saturday.

I can't really afford to buy the newest extreme right now in addition so I was looking at older models of the extreme and/or express. I waned to know if those would work with what I currently own.

    Thanks for clarification.

Why not use another AirPort Expess, just like you have?  Then, you can extend dual bands.

A1264 Express will work, but it is single band, and will not extend both bands that your new Express is sending out.

Was hoping to do the extreme so we could do a hard plug-in via ethernet cord on our smarttv and use the current express to be the extender.

Then go with the Extreme and use your Express to extend the signal. Both are dual band, so that will work.
