Is there an App that would keep disk from Unmounting?

So I have an old NAS hard drive that isn't connecting on my laptop anymore. So I got a USB cable and Sata cable and plug it into my Macbook Pro 09. ( Mavericks). The NAS HD is visible on Disk Utility. I am also using Data Rescue 3 to get my files back, but the NAS HD unmount for some reason and the Data Rescue 3 can't finish the deep scan. I unplug the USB and plug it back in and the NAS HD mount again. So now i'm wondering if there's an app that keep disk from unmounting? So, I can therefore let the program finish the scan to retrieve my files.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Sounds like it's dismounting because there's an error with the drive. If there's activity to the drive, there's no reason the system would dismount it unless there's an error that causes it or power loss/disconnection happens.

Or compatibility issues between the drive and the OS, in this case Mav.

Well I ran other programs and it says the hard drive works fine, and i have it connected with another power source, and I dont see it turn off. Maybe it could be a Mav. issues. I downloaded TestDisk, I'ma try to see if that works or I'll try daisy chaining it to my External Fw HD (which isn't having any mounting issues whatsoeverl).

I have to ask. If it's a "NAS", why are you connecting it to your system via USB? Is the network portion of it defective in any way? Reconfigure it for your LAN and make the connections to it as it was intended to be used.
