Q: Mission Control trackpad gesture not working as before in Mavericks

Hi there,

I noticed the three fingers gesture to launch Mission Control has changed in Mavericks. Now you need to stop touching the trackpad when doing the swipe up and down. I mean, you need to swipe up, STOP touching the trackpad, and then swipe down in order to activate and deactivate MC.

It may sound as a triviality but really bothers me a lot. I use that gesture pretty much to see every window opened and I hate to lose a second performing it.

Do you guys know if there is a way to change it back? I already tried to deactivate Exposé but got nothing different.

Thanks,

Best regards.

Have you reset the SMC yet

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
      Note
: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

usually in such instances resetting mission control gestures in Sys. preferences resolves it

uncheck and recheck your trackpad gestures and re-verify.

    Didn't solve it either

Is it an issue or is it suppose to work like that? You can see it working that way in the demo at sys preferences. It is "funny" how to change something so simple can be so annoying. I can't understand why they did it.

Try the following: On System Preferences / Trackpad - More Gestures / Mission Control, Toggling the Mission Control/App Expose settings to 3-finger and back to 4-fingers, this fixed the issue for me.

Apple can take a peek at this for free if you make an appt.

Crazy no? Nature of technology that random 'ghosts' pop up even the best software experts (not meaning me at all) cannot explain.

Contact for an appt and local shop visit

I had this happen, and  here's what I did. Caveat: external trackpad.

Go to the Bluetooth menu. (If you don't have a Bluetooth menu, go to Bluetooth preferences and select Show Bluetooth in menu bar.)

Pull down and find your trackpad. Select disconnect.

After it disconnects, reconnect it by pushing in the button on the right upper side of the trackpad.

    Good luck!

I had the same issue. What worked for me was doing all the solutions above, before I unplugged a USB hard drive that was connected. Then I restarted my mac. After that mission control was back.

    Good luck!

Toggling the trackpad's bluetooth connectivity fixed this problem for me. Thanks, Dave.
