Which model iMac?

Read the networking section in this PDF manual (direct download).---> Panther

Also, read the network section in the OS Help Menu.

I read these and tried to do everything it said but it will still not connect to the interent it is asking for the PPPOE ID and PW I called my intrnet service rovider and they gave it to me and it will still not connet. It also does not have the "Airport option to select" The safari icon also does not show up. It is a question mark and I only know where it used to be because the name comes up when I hover over the question mark. Is it possible I need to purchase reinstallation discs or an airport card?

You need to answer baby boomers questions. Or say why not.

PPPOE ID and PW

This is typically used by someone to connect to a business network.

We need to know what machine you have.

How are you connected to your router? Use a cable until you get that to work.

Did the new network connection work?

I assume you were trying to copy from a flash drive. Typically, flash drives are formated to dos fat32. Verify flash drive format. "no mountable file systems" Mac OS X could not find the drivers for however your flash drive was formated. Should be able to read dos fat32. How large is the flash drive?

Could try writing the flles to a cd.

I'm getting the impression a lot of system files may be missing on your system. You may consider a re-load of os x.

OK. I thought I had already replied to this but I think I may have tried to reply from my actual email so it was kicke back.

The new network connection did work. I did try do this from a USB dris so as you suggested I tried to put all of this on a cd and when I put it in the computer I get no response so I guess this is why nothis has never been done to it before.

I just put another optical drive in it and it will not open so I am wondering if maybe another peice is not working but I am not sure where to start.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on what else I can do to fix the drive. I have gone to far to quit now.

Have you tried a music cd? A music cd should be readabe. There is a chance of bad media or for some reason the writer not being compatible by your reader.

CDs are less used today with the advent of fast download and flash drives.

To do upgrade to 10.4.11. Get the lastest web browser.

Firewire connected external drive would be best and the least hassle.

I'd give OWC a call. 1-815-338-8685.

If you have another firewire ported mac you can share the cd drive.

I tend to think dashboard is neat, but not neccesary for my everyday workflow.

it is possible to enable and disable it as needed,

by entering the following commands into the terminal:

-- To turn Dashboard off:

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

-- To turn Dashboard on:

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO

-- You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect:

killall Dock
