How long should a 2013 27 inch fully specd out iMac last me?

I am going to be learning how to use Logic Pro and be doing some gaming on this machine and I just wanted to know what was the life expectancy on it. Some one told me that the 2013 21.5 inch imac with fusion drive and 16 gb of ram installed should last me like 5 years, does that mean that the 27 inch with 32 gb of ram capacity should last me approximately 10 years, and also how long would a 2012 Mac mini last me. I am guessing that a lot of things come into play when trying to figure out the lifespan of these machines, but I guess just an approximation (if thats even a word)or something. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

having repaired endless computers, the general rule is 4-6 years

if there is NO weak link in any hardware component, 8+ years

if there is......ANYTIME

how long CAN IT LAST???? Until no more parts are available which translates into about 12+ YEARS

😊

I can keep fixing things until the "parts run out" 😊

hardware is hardware....Mac Mini or Imac......same life rating

The two most extreme cases I know of are an SE/30 being used for 15 years and a G4 PowerMac still in use after 12 years. In both cases after being retired as a user computer they were put to use as servers, the SE/30 running a mail and list server for 10 years and the G4 PowerMac running AppleServer for the last 8 years. In both cases I used each computer as my personal computer for 2 years and passed them on to my wife for a couple more years before repurposing them. The longest I've ever actually continuously used a computer as my main or secondary computer is 6 years, a 2007 iMac. I retired it about this time last year and sold it to a college student.

Assuming these new iMacs are built to the same level of hardware quality as previous models, we should be able to get quite a few years out of them. However Apple tends to stop supporting with OS upgrades after about 6 years so while my 2007 iMac can run Mavericks I don't expect it to be able to run the next OS version Apple releases. When Apple stops supporting the computer, software support from third party vendors also begins to dry up. That means that your new iMac might be capable of running for 10 years but it won't be running the newest and best software for the last couple years of its life.

Just have some insurance on your Imac and its no worries for several years.

A hard drive is a hard drive, regardless if in a Mac Mini or Imac

computer components have the same chance of failure if in either machine, no difference on statistical failure.

Your cost of ownership on ANY Mac over its lifetime is averaged around 80 cents per day

that number however can vary widely. 😊
