I found these tools indispensable andnow they seem to be gone. only a ruler at the top? no side Ruler? and no draggable guideline? only alignment lines aligning with things I dont want to align

If you mean Pages 5 on Mavericks (you profile doeasn' t say so) you are right. No draggable guide lines nor left ruler.
Pages 5 has over 90 missing features:
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

Thanks. I'll be dragging Pages '09 out of my Applications/iWork folder, putting it back on my dock, and hiding the new Mavericks version. The newer, "improved" Pages is just too much of a pain to use.
Where are the guidelines and side Ruler in the New Pages
