How is tax calculated in purchases from the itunes store? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the amount of tax applied on each invoice.

I am trying to divide several itunes purchases among the various children in my home who actually downloaded each item; however, I cannot determine what percentage has been used to calculate the tax applied to purchases when comparing my itunes invoices. The percentage definitely varies from invoice to invoice and is not consistent with the 6% sales tax in my state. Is the percentage based on the state in which the seller resides?

Hello ANOTHERShannonWV

I have quoted out how tax is calculated in the iTunes Store from the terms and conditions. For more information click the link below to expand further.

Your total price will include the price of the product plus any applicable sales tax; such sales tax is based on the bill-to address and the sales tax rate in effect at the time you download the product. We will charge tax only in states where digital goods are taxable
