Dec 1, 2013 12:51 PM in response to MikeJohnKing1by Kenichi Watanabe,If this is a new shuffle that you did not previously have working with your computer, make sure the USB docking cable's plug is completely inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack. The fit can be tighter that expected, especially when brand new.
Do you have the latest version if iTunes installed? An old version of iTunes may not support the current shuffle.
Is the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) visible? If not, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, you should not see the heading DEVICES when no devices are connected. When you connect the shuffle, DEVICES appears in the sidebar, with the shuffle listed below.
If you see DEVICES appear, but the shuffle is not listed below, you may have the list toggled to hide. Move you mouse pointer over DEVICES and look for the toggle to the right, and click it to Show the list.
If nothing happens in the sidebar, iTunes is not recognizing the shuffle. Please post back for some other things to check.
