Hi

Well folks. I solved it. The problem was setting up the advanced security for hotmail. Now that I deleted the 2 step security feature. It now lets me set up my hotmail account on the iPhone. We'll I spent 4 days looking at every single page there was on a possible solution and I finally found it just before I was just going out to buy a new iphone 5s. Thank goodness. Hope this helps out others that had the same problem.

A very happy apple iphone user.

Hi. Try deleting your account on your iphone and turning off your phone a few times. Yet also log into your hotmail account on your pc. And check the security settings. Make sure you don't have the 2 set up security on it. Otherwise you won't be able to have your hotmail on your iphone aswell. But on your iphone rather than just turning it off. Do a reset. By holding down the top switch and the home button for a few seconds till the phone switches off completely. Good luck.

Hi

Ok. When you log in to your hotmail on another pc or iPad via Safari or Internet explorer does it ask you for your last 4 digits of your mobile. If they do they you have set up 2 step security. This is so to prevent your account getting hacked. If you haven't gotten this set up then try try this.

Goto your iPhone settings. General and click the bottom of the page scroll down where it says RESET press that. Now click on reset network settings.

now wait a while. Then go back to mail settings and set up your hotmail account.

Ie. name of your account John

Your email address Johnsmith@hotmail.com

Put in your password.

I just put hotmail in the last box.

Hopefully it will process this then you should get the tick signs then bingo. You should be all set up now fingers crossed. Good luck.

Let me know if it works.

I forgot to mention you need to go into hotmail on your pc. Then settings. If it says 2 step setup. Then click below that to turn off your 2 step set up.

All the best.

An alternate (and simple) way to accomplish this is to access your Hotmail account through Safari. You will be routed to Hotmail's mobile page. Scroll to the bottom and select "go to PC site." That will take you to the full version of your Hotmail page. Once there, go into settings (the cog-wheel icon) then select "password/security." If you've read this far, odds are you have two-factor authentication turned on, in which case you'll see the last two digits of the cell phone number you used to create your two-factor authentication (I forgot I had done this years ago, too). Enter the full last-four digits of that cell phone number. Before you hit "submit," check the box right below the submit button that says "I use this device frequently, so don't ask for authentication." Then hit submit. Hotmail will send a 6-digit text to your cell phone. Enter that 6-digit code into the box. Sign out of Hotmail, then go to the setup page on your iPhone and enter your Hotmail sign-in information using the "Outlook" option (Outlook is the new name of Microsoft's live.com email brands, including Hotmail). You should now be able to enter your Hotmail account on your iPhone.

hotty...you actually do not have to turn off the two step verification. It is actually great security feature for your hotmail. You are right it is not intuitive but if you have enabled the two step verification process under the security tab (which is under accounting settings under your name in the upper right) then all you have to do is click security, and under app passwords>create a new app password. This will give a long password that you type into your password field for your hotmail or outlook on your apple device and it will work immediately and start syncing.

The only downside is that you need an app for each device you wish to have your hotmail or outlook download onto. You can create multiple app passwords as I did for my iPad and iPhone. And if you delete that password on your apple device for some reason you will need to create a new app as described above. It all depends on how secure you want your email 🙂
