Q: excel command 'c' copy functionality not working

I have OSX 10.8.5 and Excel 14.3.8

I used to be able to push command c from one cell and then command v to paste the data in another cell, now command c doesnt work,

when looking in the edit menu there is no shortcut for copy, and command c is linked to 'copy to scrapbook' ,  I can right click and select copy and then the command v for paste works.  I would rather not use the mouse for that.  is there a fix or do i have to uninstall and reinstall office and just not get any updates?

if i push command c on a cell and then command v in a different cell it will paste whatever i last copied, maybe a file name, text from earlier, a song, but not the thing i tries to copy from excel

if i havent explained this well please ask questions as this is driving me nuts.

Ran into the same issue this evening - Excel for Mac 2011 on OS X 10.8.5.  CMD+C no longer copied (though the menu was flashing).  I did the CMD+SHIFT+C, and copy started working, but Paste no longer worked.  I did CMD+SHIFT+C a second time - and now both Paste, and Copy work fine with CMD+V and CMD+C respectively.

Does anyone know what CMD+SHIFT+C is doing to fix this issue?

Here's what works for me: when this happens, copy a random cell "the windows way" i.e. by using "ctrl + c". Then paste "the mac way" i.e. "cmd + v" in another cell. After that "cmd + c" and "cmd + v" works again.

    Find this:  at

    https://biohazardev.wordpress.com/2013/05/07/fix-microsoft-office-2011-for-mac-c opy-cut-paste/

Go to Settings, then Keyboard and select the tab “Keyboard Shortcuts”.

Next, you go to Application Shortcuts and you press the “+” button, You select the Microsoft Office Word (or whatever Microsoft Office application you want), type the command (“Copy” or “Cut” or “Paste”) and the corresponding keyboard shortcut.

You should end up with something like this:

    it works for me now.

I needed to copy text from Messages and paste into an Excel cell. Before upgrading to Office 365, Excel v.15.13.1, I had Excel from Office for Mac 2011 and had no problems cutting and pasting. Once I upgraded, I could no longer copy and paste into Excel.

As you suggested, I customized Keyboard but through Mac's System Preferences.

Open Mac's System Preferences. Choose Keyboard, Shortcuts, App Shortcuts, click the "+", Application (choose Excel), Menu Title: (type "copy"), Keyboard Shortcut:( press "command" key and "C" key), Add. To add the Paste function, click the "+", Application (choose Excel), Menu Title: (type "paste"), Keyboard Shortcut:( press "command" key and "V" key), Add.

For me, this fixed the more than aggravating issue of not being able to copy from another app and paste into Excel.

Same issue as others describe with Copy/Paste cmd-C / cmd-V not working, but in PowerPoint, and not in Excel or Word. In PowerPoint, I used Shift-Cmd-C, and then quit and restart PowerPoint, and the keyboard shortcuts are back to normal.

This procedure also fixed the Equation Editor in PowerPoint! It is not strictly on-topic, but I will describe this for future googlers: I had a problem with the Equation Editor in PowerPoint (Office 2011): I could see the character menus but I was unable to insert any of the characters into the equation. I tried re-installing the MS fonts but it did not help. After I did the procedure above, the Equation Editor was working normally.

    Thanks djrocketodd.

I had this issue too and, following your response, it worked by pressing cmd+shift+c.

Now I can copy using "cmd+c" and not "ctrl+c", which was quite annoying.

    Thanks!
