How is this done when subscribing to Cal on iPad ?

How to share/ sync subscribed calendars from iPad to iCloud ?

Thanks for the reply but no this doesn't help.

I may need to clarify. I subscribed to a calendar on my iPad Air which shows up in iCal fine, but does not show up either on my iPhone 5 or my MacBook even tho' other calendars are shared via iCloud fine.

I (kinda) solved it by having to subscribe each device separately to the same calendar subscription, but this seems to be a dumb way around the issue as that's the point of iCloud to keep devices synced.
