iCloud won't let me sign in with new Apple ID

Hello,

I tried to sign into iMessages and FaceTime recently only to have the screen load for 5 minutes and then say

My network connection is fine.

after some research I read that I should just start fresh and make a new apple ID. I followed the steps and signed in to iTunes with the new ID and that works but iMessage, FaceTime, Mail, and iCloud will not sign in. IiCloud will just tell me I can't sign in at that time.

Mail keeps saying there was a problem with the previous apple ID.

What do I do to fix it?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Check out the article below to troubleshoot your activation issues with FaceTime and Messages. You will want to check that the date and time are correct and that nothing is interfering with communicating with Apple services.
