I am having some issues with *long* boot times and Time machine errors on my iMac. I tried disk repair and hardware test, but they did not find anything. In fact, I have a bootcamp partition that is running fine, so it is unlikely to be a hardware issue.
The above is the only error I seem to see, could this be causing the problem? Is there a way to fix it?

Except when I unplug the TM volume, it takes just as long to boot.
Follow Linc Davis's sequence from this thread; gather some data from the logs and the model ID and firmware information, and post it here.
Unfortunately, your iMac OS X version is old enough that you don't have a recovery partition, so you'll need to boot from DVD in place of that part of the tests.
Though it's entirely a guess, there's a decent chance that you have a hardware problem. In any case, definitely make a backup or two of all of your data.

One thing I did do was boot into safe mode. The login screen came up with a big "Safe Mode" in red letters, but I could do nothing else, none of my mouse clicks had an effect, so I had to power-switch it down. I was able to boot into Windows, from the regular drive and from the DVD with no problem.

Log messages don't get any clearer than that.
Is chkdsk better than disk repair? That came up clean.
Can I run chkdsk while booting from the DVD?
Is that something to be concerned with? I don't expect OSX to do much with Bootcamp. Is this a spurious error about my bootcamp partition?

Well I did, and it didn't seem to find any problems. Chkdsk cannot be run on the boot disk, so I had to schedule it for boot-time.
Your original question refers to "Time Machine errors." What are those?
Error 35: Unable to determine UUID
Most Mac errors are negative, so...

Further digging found the "Error 35" in the Time machine log, so it was hanging.
And it is clearly Error +35, not -35.
The symptoms are exceeding long boot times and time machine hanging. I assume they are one and the same.
Once it is booted I see no other issues except for the time machine hang.
Ironically Bootcamp runs fine.
