iPhone will not make a phone call from a phone number added to a Reminder?

how can you make a phone call from a reminder? when I enter a phone number in to a reminder, my iPhone only allows me to select/copy the number; it will not dial the phone number like it will from Notes or Calendar entries. I have tried to prefix the number with "tel:" and with and without periods or dashes in the phone number string.

And I have tried putting the phone number in the Reminder title as well as in the Reminder's notes section.
