.mov.wav extensions?

Hello, when I try to open up particular quicktime files , I get the following message: "The movie file "XXXXX.MOV.WAV" cannot be found." However, the files themselves are mere .mov files in the browser.

The message I get in Quicktime7: The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -128.)

Their codec is H.264 linear PCM Timecode 1080p 29.97. I'm not sure why these programs think that they are audio files?

These files were handed down to me from a third party so they might have coded them in a way that inextricably syncs them with the audio. However, the audio files that come with the footage are not labeled in this way.

Is there anyway to unlink these mov files from their alleged .mov.wav extensions?

It must be embedded in some way that goes deeper than an extension name.

What is the size of the main file? Sounds as if it was encoded either as a reference file or a pair of elementary stream files with video stream file referencing the audio stream file with audio fileneme refference no longer matching the actual audio filename and/or path of the actual audio file on your system. Basically, the the filename reference must match the filename and navigation offset. Unfortunately, it appears you cannot correct this in the calling file directly in QT 7 Pro and changing the filename for the called file may not help if you don't know the path offset. Unfortunately, this can be a common occurance when files are moved in conjunction with filename/path changes. In most cases it is easier to resend the the files—either without name/path changes, as standalone files, or as elementary streams which can be used to recreate reference MOV files resourcing the independent audio and video stream files. (I.e., off hand, I don't know of any utility that can be used to fix this problem on your end.)
