Vertical lines on imac display

My mid 2011 21.5" iMac has a strange vertical line on the display at all times. Even when the system is first booting up. I first noticed the line about a week ago. It isn't a perfect straight line, towards the top if curves off to the right. It isn't a blemish on the glass as it won't wipe off. My iMac just came out of applecare unfortunately. I'm a web developer and I'm on this machine daily for long periods of time and this line is incredibly annoying and distracting.

I've repaired the disk and permissions as well as reset PRAM and SMC to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to fix this or is this iMac just junk?

Thanks in advance.

If it's only a month or two out of warranty take it back to the Apple Store you purchased it from and ask very politely if they will help you out. Make an appointment at the Genius bar, bring your receipts and other service records, then ask. If you don't get anywhere ask to speak to the manager (again being very polite but firm) and plead your case. If you are lucky they may help.

It's a shame you did not buy AppleCare, if you are refused you may have just learned why AppleCare can be extremely valuable.

Good luck.

I wish I had an Apple Store near me. I bought my iMac from Best Buy as the nearest apple store is about 3 hours away from me. Yeah it appears as though I had more trust in Apple products then I should have, lesson learned I guess. Thanks for the advice.

You can attempt the same at BBY however IMHO I think you're spitting in the wind with them. Sorry you bought from them, another thing to try is to call to AppleCare and request to speak to customer service. Plead your case and if it's declined request to speak to a more senior manager. Two lessons here, buy from Apple directly and buy AppleCare, it would have only cost $120 or so if you bought it from a reputable reseller such as B&H Photo.

Just wanted to post a resolution in case anyone else has a similar issue and finds this support thread in the future.

After further inspection and research the line on my iMac's screen were a result of image burn-in. As I mentioned before I'm a web developer and I must have let a static image on the display too long which resulted in the burn-in.

I followed this guide from Apple http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2807 and was successfully able to remove the lines on my screen. I have also adjusted my energy saver settings to put my display to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity to hopefully prevent this issue in the future.

Thanks to everyone here for their support and advice.
