imessage wont deactivate after switch to Android

I recently upgraded from iphone to Android. I cannot recieve texts from iphone because it is still trying to send imessages to my android phone which does not support it. I called apple, LG, and Sprint with 3 diffrent answers. Apple said to reset my apple id password and remove the iphone entirely from icloud and wait 24 hours, I did this to no avail. LG said they havent seen this problem yet, and Sprint said I need to replace my phone. I have done every troubleshooting step for this imessage issue and still cant recieve messages from iphones. There has to be some way to disable this without asking them to turn off imessage in their iphones, come on Apple. ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER THAT ACTUALLY FIXES THIS PROBLEM????
