recovering my ipod touch 4th generation

when i press the home button on my ipod it just pops up a diagram telling me to connect to itunes.

when i try to connect my ipod to my computer on my itunes, itunes tells me to recover my ipod because it is in recovery mode.

i am confused because it tells me to go to itunes and itunes tells me to go away...i dont know what to do and i am worried i will have to restore

my ipod and erase everything. help me please. my ipod is in recovery mode because as i was updating it my charger broke as the computer

was putting all my pictures and music back into the ipod and i just recently got a charger.

iPod touch, iOS 7.0.3
