How do I mute or lower volume of video clips in Aperture slideshows?

I'm using some underwater footage in a slideshow, and the sound of bubbles etc. overwhelms the music. I see no way to manage the two audio tracks in a slideshow -- the music just fades out, ruining the continuity. I tried editing the clips in iMovie, but I have no idea how to simply open a clip, lower the audio, and export it back as an asset to add to Aperture. Any ideas?

If you use either the Classic or Ken Burns Slideshow Themes, you have complete control of the audio of included video clips. If you use any of the included canned themes, the audio is controlled by the theme with no manner to overide that control ... which, to me, defeats the purpose of Aperture ... simplify the workflow ...

Let's hope Apple addresses this issue for future versions of Aperture ...
