I have Windows 8.1 installed with Core i3 on a Lenovo G580 laptop. Is there a way that the I can partition and run a Mac OS on the same device? I'm getting fed up of Windows 8.1 and updates since the big upgrade to 8.1 which don't install.

Sorry, the question is about trying to install Mac OS on Windows 8.1 laptop, not install Win 8.1 on a Mac or Macbook which I don't have!
I saw some specifications which say that if the chip is an Intel Core i3 then it could support a Mac OS so I wondered if anyone had done it and whether it works as a dual boot option.

You can't install the Mac OS on any Windows machine.
Seems like you can, although I think you need a Mac to start with. I have an old one, it has the dome base and swivel screen. I think the OS can be loaded to an external USB drive then it gets complicated after that!
The license for Mac OS X probits you from installing and using Mac OS X on anything other than Apple hardware so no, legally you cannot. Whether you could do so technically is something we cannot discuss here.
