Can using intel HD have a negative effect on my computer?

Hey Guys! I have a common problem with my macbook pro mid 2010 15" i7, which was bought 2 years ago in the US and am currently staying in Russia.it automatically restarts itself, I was told the problem with my computer is the GPU and the only way to have it fixed is by replacing it and Apple is doing for free for all machines bought within the 3 year period but since am not in the country where I bought my mac, they said I will have to pay for that but since i dont have money to have it repaired, I decided to be using only Intel HD graphic and switching off auto switching but am wondering if this can affect my computer if i continue using my integrated graphic card but using my integrated graphic card,my computer works fine without restarting itself.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Restricting the machine to only using the Intel graphics should not harm it in anyway. I only use the discrete graphics chip on my late-2008 MBP very occasionally and use the integrated graphics probably about 99% of the time. My machine is over four years old now and still works perfectly - it has never had any hardware problems.

The Intel chipset should actually run cooler, which if anything, would be beneficial to the longevity of a computer.

If that allows you to live with the bad discrete GPU, I would say you need not worry about it at all.

P.S. the GPU service extension is a world wide program, so I don't understand why you could not get service in Russia?
