When a contact has multiple numbers, how can I tell which one called me?

Wanted to update the answer as of 2017, as it seems to have changed. On my iPhone 7, if I want to see which number I used during a call, I select the i, then scroll down to the part of the screen showing the numbers, and next to the number that was used, it says "Recent." If I am looking at a text, I select the i, then select the name, and then in the list of numbers it has the word "Recent" next to the one that was used. In the answers it seemed to be a difference between blue or black text, which is no longer the case.

Hitting the info button will show you all the numbers, but the one they used should be highlit. On my iPhone 5 the actually number used is red, or if I placed the call, the number I called is blue.

I do have a number of settings altered in Accessibility (Bold Text=ON, Increased contrast=ON), so the number color may be different on yours.

I have this problem also, I can't tell which number the person is calling from. I can use the info button to show you all the numbers, nothing is highlighted. The settings in accessibility don't seem to help identify the number, they just make everything larger and different colors. I really would like this feature, because people don't like when I call them back at a different number.

You can provide feedback to Apple if you would like to see a change. You can also identify the number by the information in the recent call list, depending on how you identified the number in your contacts. Also, if you tap on the call from the recent call list, it will call back the number that called you. Feedback to Apple goes to http://www.apple.com/feedback and then click on the appropriate subject area.

That is exactly what I want to do - in history list, display the number name (i.e. home, mobile). How do you do that?

When I look at calls in my Recents list, there are two lines. The top line is the contact name, the second line is the listing from my contacts that indicates the label for the number the call came from. If that is not enough, then you can tap on the ℹ at the end of the listing which brings you to the individual contact. The number you received the call from will be in a different color than the other numbers. In mine it is in blue. This is just like the information provided in the earlier part of this thread.

In my history list I have the number name (home, mobile) but not the actual number shown. I do not get highlighted numbers when I use the info icon on the phone.

my contact have two iphones, and he calls from one of them. So how to check from wich number?
