I have some .mov files of moving graphics that were created by someone else. They look absolutely fantastic when I open them in Quicktime. All of the specs are the same as the project I have in FCPX (1920x1080, 23.98 fps) but the graphics look muddy (you can't read the lettering). Thoughts?

Open one of the graphics files in QTX, hit Command-i to pull up the movie inspector. Post a screen shot of the Inspector info.

How was this graphic created – rather, in what application? And how did it get converted to a Pro Res mov?

I believe it was made in After Effects and exported at 29 fps. I converted it in Wondershare video converter to 23.98 fps.
Project settings are as above 1920x1080, 23.98 fps.
Skip Wondershare altogether and drop the AE-exported 29.97 file into your FCPX project. Check playback Quality and make sure it's set to High Quality.
